Maps are usually provided on a website to show locations of stores, offices, the outreach of an organization and so on. This helps users to find information about the exact location of an address.

Since there could be limitations in accessibility of maps for screen reader users, it is necessary to provide textual equivalent of all information including locations and directions to reach them covered in the map. These can be provided in the form of plain text or links that navigate to the information.

NOTE:

  • New to accessibility or uncertain of requirements, it will be helpful to review all sections below.
  • Already familiar with requirements, skip to the “Working Example” section for sample HTML, CSS and JavaScript (when needed), along with a working demo.
