Subscripts

The subscript indicator (dots 56) is used to enter a subscripted variable or number.

When typing a subscripted expression, the baseline indicator (dot 5) is used to terminate the subscript and return to the baseline (after the subscript) to allow additional input after the subscripted expression.

When a subscript is applied to more than one symbol, be sure that the entire expression contained in the base is selected (underlined with dot 8) before typing the subscript indicator to ensure the subscript is applied properly.

When the base or the subscript involves more than a single symbol, parentheses may be used for clarification.
