2022 Nemeth Code Curriculum Field Study

The National Federation of the Blind and Pearson have contracted with subject matter experts to develop a comprehensive Nemeth Code Curriculum.

The step-by-step Nemeth Code Curriculum is designed to teach students who are visually impaired in grades Pre-Kindergarten through second grade how to read and write the Nemeth Code. The engaging Nemeth Focused Lessons for students in grades 3 through 8 provide a fun and supportive way to learn new symbols and practice reading and writing these symbols within grade-level math problems. The user-friendly Nemeth Symbol Library provides definitions of how to write Nemeth Code symbols used in Kindergarten through Calculus. It also provides helpful hints for remembering how to read and write many of the symbols and examples in print and braille.

In the fall of 2022, we will be conducting a field study to explore the effectiveness and usability of the curriculum. Each participant will receive compensation. In addition, everyone involved in the field study will have access to the new updated curriculum materials.
